LOGANSPORT WOMAN SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS FOR NEGLECT RESULTING IN SERIOUS BODILY INJURY

08/08/2023

 Deanna Mae Harrison
PRESS RELEASE

LOGANSPORT – Noah Schafer, the Cass County Prosecuting Attorney, announced that Deanna Mae Harrison, 28, of Logansport, Indiana was sentenced to ten years in the Indiana Department of Correction for Neglect of a Dependent, a Level 3 Felony.  The sentencing was in Cass Superior Court 2 with Judge Lisa Swaim presiding.  Of ten year sentence, four years could be served on community corrections, and four years would be suspended to probation.

The case stemmed from a January of 2020 investigation by the Logansport Police Department, when officers responded to a report of a child in substantial medical distress.  It was later determined that Harrison and her boyfriend at the time, Zachery Lee Gunter, had both been present when the injuries took place, and both had stood silent while medical professionals worked to determine the cause of the medical distress, which gave the injuries time to become life-threatening.  Harrison and Gunter were both arrested for Neglect of a Dependent, a Level 3 Felony.  In March of 2022, Gunter was sentenced to twelve years in prison, with four of those years suspended to probation, also in Cass Superior Court 2.

According to court records, Harrison’s criminal history includes prior a conviction for Criminal Recklessness as a misdemeanor in a case which also involved a child.  Harrison also has a pending open misdemeanor case involving Invasion of Privacy in Cass Superior Court 2.
